Cf. Rùmpa (see). Further connected with Latv. Rumpe ¹, Rumpis ². Sometimes it can also be of nickname origin, cf. lit. rump „rupus“, rump „karpytas, rantytas“, rump „storas, nedailus audeklas“. In addition, Lieut. and Latv. the surnames may simply come from the Germanic lit. of these languages. rum̃pis, rūmpis „liemuo, stuomuo“ (LKŽ XI 954-955), Latv. rumen < month rump „liemuo“ (LVV III 559).
