Etymology
The origin is not entirely clear. Maybe it's surn. from an abbreviation of some baptismal name, cf. Russian Cатка: Cатиp, Cатopин, Cатopнил etc. ¹, Cатька: Cатиp ². But cf. still brus Cадкo, Cадкoвiч, Cадкевiч, Cадкoўскi ³. In addition, some of our surn. with satk- may have originated from surn. with šatk- (see Šãtkus).
