Stabingis

These surn. the root stab- could be connected with lit. stãbas „statula ar koks daiktas, laikomas dievu and garbinamas; statula; stulpas“ (LKŽ XIII 604), Latv. stabs „stulpas; stabas“ (LVV III 1036). See also Z. Zinkevičius, 1977, p. 198. But it is possible that the surname Stabi̇̀ngis is of place-name origin - from the name of the lake Stabi̇̀ngis (Senai).
