Etymology
Cf. Tankẽvičius, Tankovskis (see). These surn. the origin of the root density is not entirely clear. Perhaps it should be connected with the forms of the baptismal name Antãnas, cf. German Tank(e): Antonius ¹, Tan(c)k, Tanke ², Rus. Toнька, Toник: Aнтoн, Aнтoнин ³, bRuss. Toнik, Toнька: Aнтoн ⁴ and so on. Cf. still bend Tank (SSNO V 420). However, the root dan- here can also be from tamk- - see Tamkūn
