Taraila

Cf. Taraílė, Tarai̇̃lis, Tarai̇̃lius, Taréila, Tarei̇̃lis, Tarėi̇̃lis (see). The etymology of the root is not entirely clear. It could be an old Baltic root, which is also common in two-stem lit. pers.n., see Tárvydas. However, another origin is also possible. Cf. Brus Tаpайла, Tаpалаў, Tаpаiла ¹, Polish. Tаr, Tarała (SSNO V 420). Perhaps tar- could also be from the baptismal name Tarãsas, see Taras. See also Z. Zinkevičius, 1977, p. 208-209.
