Cf. Taũbas (see). Probably of Germanic origin surn., cf. German Taub, Taube ¹. ♦ On the other hand, it can be from lit. taubà „puskvaišis, ištižėlis; verksnys“, taubóti „žliumbti“ (LKŽe).
