Etymology

The origin of root fracture is unclear. Cf. lit. trapénti, trapinė́ti ¹, perhaps brittle „greitai lūžtantis, lengvai trupantis, byrantis į gabalėlius; netvirtas, nepastovus“ (DLKŽ) or the like. Cf. more surn. with trep-, see Trepéika Although there may be other origins, cf. German Trapp(e) ², Trapp, Trappe ³.
