Cf. Užùlanis, Užulėnas (see). The origin is unclear. Perhaps these are surnames derived from *Užulėnis. These would be the origins of the prefix from the town name Lė́nas (Ukmergės district), cf. Užulėnis k. Ukmergė district However, it is also possible to develop from *Ąžuolionis, *Ąžuolėnas (see Ą́žuolas) or the like.♦ Rather, it may not be from the town, but from the name of the lake Lė́nas, i.e. i.e. living beyond a lake named Lė́nas.
