Cf. Uikis (see). The origin is unclear. Perhaps cf. lit. ùiti, ùja, ùjo „nuolat barti, raginti ką daryti; varyti, ginti, guiti“ (DLKŽ), t. i.e. with the suffix -k- from uj- or the like.♦ On the other hand, cf. lit. jump „tinginys“, jump „keikti, plūsti“ (LKŽe).
