Viselga
VISÉLGA
Etymology
Cf. Vesélga, Vesiálga, Visálga, Visiálga (see). Possibly compound examples: Vis-élga, Vis-álga, cf. Ave. Wiss-alge, Wiss-elge ¹. For alg-, elg- cf. lit. pers.n. Vaiš-algas, Min-alga ², Kant-alga, Min-iálga ³. Further on alg- see Algminăvičius. Sandas in all-compound lit. is very common in personal names (see Vi̇̀smantas), but in this case it is not entirely clear whether this sandas is really authentic. The Prussian examples would seem to confirm its authenticity, but some other circumstances, e.g. Naugard chronicles pers.n. Bышелгъ, which is usually written as Boишелгъ ⁴, would suggest that pers.n. Visálga, Visélga sandas vis- may be the result of a later development (from *vaiš- or similar).
