Cf. Vitkáuskas, Vitkẽvičius (see). Lieut. The origin of surnames with vitk- is not entirely clear in the sense that apparently not all of them are of the same origin. Sometimes it is possible that one of them (Vi̇̀tkus or the like) can be derived from the combined Lithuanian pers.n. Výtautas It is even believed that, for example, Witek, among others, can also be from the name Witold ¹. But more often the stem can be genetically non-Baltic, cf. polish Witko, Witiek, associated with the name Wit (see also Vi̇̀tas), Wicik (SSNO VI 130-131), Witkow, Witkowski ², bRuss.
