Etymology
Cf. Zãbita (see). The origin is unclear. K. Būga at this surn. also mentions the name of the village Zabičiūnai (Zarasu district). Because of the consonant z, K. Būga tended to consider the surname as Curonian ¹. However, it would probably be more reliable in Šiaus surn. to derive from Nezabìtis (see).
