Etymology
The origin is not entirely clear. Probably glorified from *Čiupkis or *Čiupkus. Then it would be a nickname, cf. lit. čipkis, čipkus „nevikrus žmogus, čiupa, čiupeklis“ (LKŽ II 167). However, other connections are also possible, cf. polish Czupka (SSNO I 435), Czapek ¹.
