Etymology
The origin is unclear. Cf. German Scharke, Schäricke ¹, Scherk ², Polish. Szerka (SSNO V 304), BRuss. Шэpка ³. Although Žemaitian šerk- can also be from širk- (see Ši̇̀rka).♦ On the other hand, it can be from Šar̃kus (see).
