Perhaps from *Šid-dagi. This would be a compound surn., the first syllable of which is šid- (see Šidéikis), and the second is from lit. dagỹs „graižažiedžių šeimos piktžolė aštriais dygliais (Carduus); pikčiurna“ (DLKŽ).♦ On the other hand, it is considered to have arisen from the double-stemmed pers.n.
