Širgaila
ŠIRGAILA
Etymology
Dvikamiene surn.: Shir-gaila. For shir- cf. lit. surn. Šìr-montas, Šìr-vidas, Šìr-vydas, Šir-vidis, Šir-vilà (see), pers.n. Ši̇̀r-minas, Ši̇̀r-vilas, Ši̇̀r-vinas ¹, Schir-gail ². The origin of Sandos šir- is unclear - in all cases it may be a graphic variant of the root sir- that appeared later (see Si̇̀rgedas for it) - more details Z. Zinkevičius, 1981, p. 28-41. Unfortunately, see Bargáila.
