Etymology
The geography of the surname would allow us to compare it with Úmanas, whose Baltic origin is, admittedly, doubtful. However, sandas mant- ¹ does not, however, allow Úmantas to be considered a Germanism. Therefore, perhaps it is a compound Baltic surname, cf. I-vỹdis ², bRuss. Aш-вила, Aшвiлаў, which is possibly from the white *Aš-vila ³.
