Agintas
ÃGINTAS
Etymology
Perhaps the initial a of the word is from ai: *Aigintas. This would be a composite surn., whose ai- can be connected to ei̇̃ti ¹. However, in this case it remains unclear how the diphthong ei became ai, since in the indicated places word-initial e becomes a only in a certain position ². One could guess that maybe surn. *Aigintas is non-native or has changed irregularly ³.
