Bubnys
BUBNỸS
Etymology
Like surn. Bublỹs: In the case of Būblỹs, the relationship between Bubnỹs and Būbnỹs is unclear (see). Therefore, about these surn. the origin is difficult to say for sure. Maybe surn. Būbnỹs can be considered as a derivative of the ending -ys from Slavic bū̃bnas „būgnas“, cf. Bùbin (see). The endings -ys are derived from nouns lit. the language has a few: gaurỹs: gaurai̇̃, kuodỹs: kuõdas, sapnỹs: sãpnas, etc. ¹. It can be assumed that the variant with short u - Bubnỹs - is still related to Būbnỹs: its short vowel u may have appeared, among other things, irregularly - due to the fault of the scribes, due to associations with bùbinas, etc.
