It is not clear whether it can be associated with lit. riebùs „nutukęs, nusipenėjęs, apkūnus, apvalus, įsiganęs“ (LKŽ XI 547), is it some later changed surname, whose root diphthong ie would be from e - due to the root reb- see below. Rebỹs.
