Sudimtas
SÙDIMTAS
Etymology
The origin is not entirely clear. A. Salys believes that it is a double-stemmed pers.n., the second root of which is to be connected with lit. to take ¹, for this sand cf. still lit. Ei̇̃d-imtas, OPr. Gẽd-imtas, Sán-imtas, Sùr-imtas, Im̃tas (ibid.). For the first sand sùd- see Sùdmantas. However, this surn. -im- could be from -in-, then cf. Salted (see).
